Lapid: No Yad Vashem in Our Name

The head of the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial, Yosef (Tommy) Lapid, spoke at the official Holocaust commemoration ceremony on Sunday evening and drew connections between the World War II era and current events. Lapid spoke of Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, saying that for Ahmadinejad the six million Jews killed in the Holocaust weren’t enough, and there are still “six million too many” Jews in Israel.

Those who perished in the Holocaust are speaking to us, Lapid said, telling us “We thought this couldn’t happen, we trusted in peoples’ good will. When we woke from our illusions it was too late, don’t follow in our footsteps.” Lapid addressed the world, saying that Israel will not allow another Yad Vashem to be created in the name of Jews today. We will not take chances, he said.
